Our Community

IMAS is involved in many community events around Tasmania. Our local community is an integral part of our research and outlook, so if you see our fish tanks, boats or scientists out and about, come and say hello.

IMAS exhibition space

We hold a variety of public exhibitions at our beautiful waterfront building in Hobart - from showcasing our research, to science-meets-art displays.  Click on 'now showing' to confirm our opening times and to book a group visit.

Please note: Our exhibition opening times and entry requirements may vary due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Agfest

Agfest is an annual agricultural show in the north of Tasmania. Run by the Rural Youth Organisation of Tasmania, IMAS attends this enormous event to showcase our capacity in aquaculture and fisheries research, and environmental sustainability.

Australian Wooden Boat Festival

As part of our engagement with the boating community, especially recreational fishers, we regularly attend the biannual Australian Wooden Boat Festival. The Festival celebrates our rich maritime culture, and is one of the largest events of its kind in the world.

Australian Antarctic Festival

IMAS is a proud supporter of the biannual Australian Antarctic Festival providing an open day at the IMAS Salamanca building with various interactive activities and presentations from researchers for both schools and members of the public.

We also publicise our upcoming events on Facebook and Twitter.
