First group of Master of Environmental Governance students commence

The Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies has welcomed the first intake of students into its new Master of Environmental Governance (Oceans, Polar and Climate), an innovative program co-delivered with the Faculty of Law.

In true global fashion, students hail from China, England, France, the United States and New Zealand and of course Australia.

Last Friday students finished the 5-week foundation unit, Global Environmental Governance, taught by Professor Benjamin J. Richardson.

The highlight of the unit was a mock negotiation in which students attempted to resolve a hypothetical dispute over management of the Arctic environment.

Guest lectures from experts at Parks Australia  and the Australian Antarctic Division were other highlights of the intensive classes.

The unit also attracted several PhD students seeking to enrich their knowledge of environmental law and policy.

The Master's students will go on to complete a research thesis and a one month work experience placement.
