This project aims to ensure that the monitoring and management strategies for salmon farming are fit for purpose in Storm Bay, Lower D’Entrecasteaux Channel and Macquarie Harbour.
The research builds on our existing understanding from established growing areas to develop performance criteria relevant to each region. This project evaluates interactions between local reef systems and salmon farming – determining the risks, recommending appropriate monitoring approaches and identifying mitigation strategies where relevant.

The research will improve our understanding of environmental processes in new farming regions and how these relate to existing monitoring tools; information that will be used for management of new farming regions.
Reports related to research in this area, are available here, under the Salmon heading.
