IMAS is involved in many community events around Tasmania. Our local community is an integral part of our research and outlook, so if you see our fish tanks, boats or scientists out and about, come and say hello.
As part of our community engagement ethos and interdisciplinary approach to research, we often invite artists to exhibit their work in the public exhibition space at IMAS Hobart's beautiful Waterfront Building. Much of the time the selected works display the link between science and art, with themes recently including plastics in the ocean, and depicting scientists and their passion for research.
If you are an artist interested in exhibiting at IMAS Hobart, please send your information and concept ideas to the IMAS reception
Agfest is an annual agricultural show in the north of Tasmania. Run by the Rural Youth Organisation of Tasmania, IMAS attends this enormous event to showcase our capacity in aquaculture and fisheries research, and environmental sustainability.
As part of our engagement with the boating community, especially recreational fishers, we regularly attend the biannual Australian Wooden Boat Festival. The Festival celebrates our rich maritime culture, and is one of the largest events of its kind in the world.
IMAS is a proud supporter of the biannual Australian Antarctic Festival providing an open day at the IMAS Salamanca building with various interactive activities and presentations from researchers for both schools and members of the public.
